Meet Nakiaya Dunn | EA Accountant and Momprenuer

What’s a quote that fuels your passion?

“God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference”

There are a few things in life we simply cannot change, like the family we are born into, where we are from or life’s circumstances, but there are so many more that we can. Everyday we wake up with a choice and those decisions can leave us either stagnant or growing. You have to find the courage to make a difference and there is so much peace, so much serenity, in knowing what’s for you - no man can stop.

Nakiaya, your Humble Takeover is your story. Tell the family where you started and how you got to where you are today.

I am a 28 year old Momprenuer. I think that says more than I can ever say about myself and my current venture, Goodie Jar Co. Although Prowess Financial Services, my tax and accounting business, is my most prominent venture, Goodie Jar Co. is definitely the dearest to my heart. Goodie Jar was a complete accident initially. It started with simple online posts about fruit infused sea moss and followers wanting to try it. With no business intention at all but I definitely took advantage of the opportunity. My love and intention for my baby girl inspired the expansion of the business far beyond seamoss to natural skincare products.

Which chapter in your story inspired your current venture?

My entrepreneurial mindset started back in elementary school; I would color pictures and sell them to my classmates. Although I've always been book smart, graduating valedictorian of my class at McKinley High School, I am truly a ‘creative’ at heart. The books led me to LSU. I now have a Bachelor’s in Accounting and I hold an IRS designation as an Enrolled Agent. The boss mentally created Prowess Financial Services, a need based business. My heart, on the other hand, is responsible for the Goodie Jar; my strong urge to make something - especially once my daughter arrived. She motivated me in ways I never knew possible. She should really be the face of Goodie Jar. Majority of the products were inspired by her in some way or another and it’s because of Emerald that I am going to strive to grow this brand far beyond my wildest dreams. I will have a legacy to leave behind for her. This is my Humble Takeover.

What keeps you Humble through your success and failure in Life?

Life is what keeps me humble. Just as God gives it, he can take it away. Knowing where I started and how fast things can change, I am so appreciative of all that this life has to offer me. I am grateful for what I have and what I've lost because both the wins and the losses have molded me into the woman I am.

What advice would you offer our family who is writing their own story?

You are responsible for your story. No one holds the pen but you. Be courageous. Be fearless. You are unstoppable. Grab life by the horns and go after everything you want. The world is yours!
