Meet Larry Cordaro | Head Basketball Coach of LSU Alexandria

What’s a quote that fuels your passion?

“Rebounding for others while shooting for goals!”

                                                  -Coach Cordaro

Coach Cordaro, your Humble Takeover is your story. Although one post could not tell your whole story, we are glad to highlight a few of your Great efforts.Tell the family where you started and how you got to where you are today.

I started coaching at LSU as a graduate assistant where I experienced the opportunity of a lifetime at a young age. After 8 years of coaching at Southeastern in Hammond God chose me to begin a college basketball program from scratch. He showed me the scripture Psalm 32:8 and the rest was history. We played for a national championship in our 4th season and have been blessed to sign and graduate many high-character young men.

Which chapter in your story inspired you to start coaching?

After completion of an accounting internship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa I knew that I wanted to stop that profession and bounce in another direction. The question I asked myself, "What would I do for free?" That simple question has me now entering a 20th year in college coaching. Follow your heart young people and old.

What keeps you Humble through your success and failure in Life?

My parents taught me to keep working no matter what. We are very fortunate and appreciative of life opportunities. Our message to our players is just because we win doesn't make us better people. We want to be champions in life. After defeats we want to keep our head up and after victories we want to keep our head down. We strive to turn negatives into positives. Things work out best to those who make the best of how things work out.

What advice would you offer our family who is writing their own story?

“Discover your talent and Develop it Everyday! Be yourself and don't change, except for the better! Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, do it with ALL your HEART, as working for The Lord. Lastly, as my father always reminds me that Jim Valvano said, "Don't give up, don't ever give up!"

Do you have any upcoming events or projects you would like to share?

Lord willing, we are entering the 7th overall season of LSUA Basketball. Our student-athletes have been working hard preparing all spring and summer. We want to see them Galatians 6:9 (reap a harvest).

We’d love to hear more stories, please suggest 5 other persons writing their own story and Conquering the World.
