Meet Lemond IMAG Brown "The STEAM Emcee"

What’s a quote that fuels your passion?

"We don't chase money, we create opportunities for money to follow us." Tonny Sauls

Lemond, your Humble Takeover is your story. Tell the family where you started and how you got to where you are today.

My name is Lemond IMAG Brown, I am a music artist, educator and activist. I have blended my passion for producing and creating music with my love of science and engineering, some know me as "The STEAM Emcee".

Currently I am CEO of the Swaliga Foundation. Since 2012 we have impacted more than 10,000 youth and families through STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art and Math) Education. We help youth build confidence, develop tech skills and life skills, and become aware of new careers and opportunities.

Which chapter in your story inspired your current venture?

It was during my time in Philadelphia at Drexel University that opened my eyes. I was on the verge of dropping out of school and had a life changing conversation with a man after getting into some trouble with the law. Thankfully I graduated in 2012 with a degree in Architectural Engineering and immediately returned home to D.C. to found the Swaliga Foundation. I began volunteering at the local Boys & Girls Club 14 in NE, working with teens and developing new ways to learn. Within 3 years we were running a regional program throughout DC, MD, and VA, and had been approved for tax exempt non profit status due to a sponsorship from Best Buy. Today Swaliga has active branches in 4 countries and continues to impact thousands of youth and families every year through STEAM education.

What keeps you Humble through your success and failure in Life?

There are always ups and downs, change is a part of life. Staying grateful for the present, and learning from any mistakes, is what keeps me hungry and humble.

What advice would you offer our family who is writing their own story?

Start by finding something you are passionate about, something that you love to do. We all enjoy doing something whether we realize it or not. The things we enjoy doing are usually related to our purpose. Finding my purpose gave me so much joy and confidence. If you have no idea where to start to find your passion or your purpose, then simply surround yourself with positive people who are actively walking in their purpose, you know who they are. Before you know it you will adopt that energy and begin to understand your strength and your purpose. The rest is about serving others. One of our key roles is to be of service to our family and our community.

Do you have any upcoming events or projects you would like to share?

I’m excited to announce that I just released the "#STEAMtheBlock: Book of Revolution EP." This is the first Hip Hop album ever to teach Space Science. Our goal is to use this music to revolutionize learning and get more young people of color into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) fields. You've heard the ABC song or "numbers rap", this is different, this a snapshot of my first year of Engineering School, carefully blended to Hip Hop beats. The best part is that most people won't be able to tell if it's educational at all until they read the lyrics, it's packed with double entendres. I'm extremely proud of the work I put into the writing and production of this project. It's currently on all major streaming platforms, and available for download on oleent.com.

We’d love to hear more stories, please suggest 5 other persons writing their own story and Conquering the World.
